What We Believe
- Government's primary purpose is to protect life, liberty, property, and the rule of law.
- The Constitution is an unambiguous document that strictly limits the power of government. It is not a "living document" and is not subject to the whim of those in political power.
- The rights of the people are many and unbounded. The power of government is little and is granted or revoked by the governed.
- Individuals and families are entitled to keep the majority of what they earn. Taxes should be low, simple, and just. The tax code should not be used to promote or enforce government dictated behavior. The tax code should also not be used as an instrument to blackmail states into compliance with policies advocated by the federal government.
- Government should live within its means, should not over-step its legal and moral authority, and should not take property from one citizen to give to another.
- Economic prosperity, technology, and vibrant industry are by-products of citizens free to pursue their dreams limited only by their ambition and talent without undue government regulation or interference.
- Government policy should reaffirm the unique and central role of the traditional family and promote strong family values which are the foundation of American society.
- Affordable health care can and should be achieved by through free market competition, eliminating government mandates, and allowing people to own and control their own health care plans.
- Measures should be enacted to eliminate frivolous lawsuits which impose large and unjust burdens on people and the economy. Judges should adhere to the constitution and refrain from legislating from the bench.
- Government should treat all of its citizens equally under the law. Innocent human life, including the unborn, must be protected from conception until natural death.
- The most fundamental function and duty of government is to provide for the safety of its citizens. Substantially tougher laws need to keep violent and dangerous criminals incarcerated so as not to let them become repeat offenders.
- Citizens have the right to lawfully protect themselves and their property without fear of prosecution by the government.
- The environment needs to be preserved for us and for future generations without enacting radical and unnecessary regulations and taxes that trample the rights of the people, their property, and their economic well being.
- In general, government should only be as large as needed to accomplish its primary functions with minimal intrusion into the rights and liberty of the people.
Why should I support and vote for Republicans?
Because elections have consequences!
Over the last couple of elections voters bought into the Democrat Party sales pitch of "change". Democrats were elected and they certainly brought about change. Unfortunately, as we are painfully reminded almost on a daily basis, not all change is for the good.
At the National level:
Under the Republican Congress (circa 2005):- The price of a gallon gas was $1.86
- Unemployment was 4.4%
- The national deficit was $248 billion and shrinking
Contrast this to today with the "change" brought about by a Democrat Congress (starting in 2006) and a Democrat in the White House:
- The price of gas topped $4.00 a gallon and is currently fluctuating between $2-3 a gallon
- Unemployment has sky rocketed to over 10% (actually about 17% according to some measures)
- National deficit is on track to exceed $9 trillion over the next decade!
Clearly this kind of change was the kind we would be better off without!
Things are just as bad, and in some respects even worse, at the state and local level. These governments are out of control, imposing more and more taxes, unnecessary regulation, wasteful programs that are often harmful to our society.
Republicans are opposed to the tax, spend, and regulate policies that have been enacted largely by liberal Democrats. The Republican message is that individuals free to pursue their dreams and ambitions unencumbered by excessive taxes and regulation does much more to promote prosperity for all than does bloated and wasteful government programs.
